Pitching Sets Tone For Softball Sweep of Southern Wesleyan

MacAusland, Deems Toss Complete Game Gems

MacAusland's complete game performance helps Lady Flames take game one of Sunday's twinbill

Central, S.C.- Behind two strong starting pitching performances from Caroline MacAusland and Katie Deems the Lee women's softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of conference foe Southern Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.

The fourth-ranked Lady Flames are now 39-8 overall and 22-5 in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). The Warriors fall to 23-22 on the year and 8-15 in conference play.

Lee will now gear up for another conference road test on Tuesday when they battle the No. 18 Brenau Golden Tigers in Gainesville, Ga. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

Lee 5, Southern Wesleyan 2

 MacAusland tossed seven solid innings to lead the Lee softball team past Southern Wesleyan, 5-2 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.

MacAusland (11-4) gave up two runs (one earned) in going the distance for the Lady Flames. The freshman gave up four hits and struck out five Warrior batters.

Ana Coscorrosa drove in two runs in the contest and finished 1-for-3. Meghan Macias continued her solid weekend from the plate with two more hits while Lexie Dean had two safeties and drove in a run to anchor Lee's offensive attack.

Lee 4, Southern Wesleyan 1

Deems (7-1) picked up right where her freshman counterpart left off, tossing a complete game three-hitter to give the Lady Flames a 4-1 victory and the series sweep, . The senior made the Warriors swing the bat as she peppered the strike zone and did not allow a free pass.

Dominique Hannah provided the offensive punch in game two for the Lady Flames with a 3-for-4 performance. Coscorrosa added a double and two singles while driving in two. Macias went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.   Laurel Allen, Dean and Amanda Lynn each had two safeties apiece to give Lee six players in the starting lineup with mulit-hit efforts. The Lady Flames finished with 14 hits in the contest.

Alison Barbee was tagged with the loss for the Warriors. Barbee pitched all seven innings giving up four runs on 14 hits. She walked two and struck out four. She also made her presence felt at the plate with a double. Haley Secrest scored the lone run for Southern Wesleyan in the bottom of the sixth inning.
