Clicking on all cylinders on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor, Lee produced what coach Marty Rowe called his team's most complete game of the season on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena.
Paced by the scoring of Jenna Adams and the all-around outstanding play of Rachel Lockhart, the Lady Flames improved to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in the Gulf South Conference with a convincing 66-40 victory over visiting Memphis Christian Brothers.
Adams recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 28 points and 13 rebounds in 35 minutes of playing time. She was 9-of-15 from the field, 3-of-6 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Lockhart was called on to defend the Lady Bucs leading scorer, Breanna Ridgell, and held the CBU guard to only two points the entire second half. Ridgell finished the contest with 14 points. Lockhart also had 13 points, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range and she blocked four shots.
"Rachel helped open things up for Jenna and Hollie (German) by making those 3-pointers," said coach Rowe. "She played 32 minutes and gave us everything she had. I know it goes unnoticed at times but those who watch her nightly realize she's one of the most valuable I've had since coming to Lee.
"Jenna showed us what she can do if she stays out of foul trouble," added Rowe. "She was more productive by moving down low and posting up, then going back outside to knock down 3-of-6 3-point shots. I'm pleased with the overall effort of the entire team. We beat a very good Christian Brothers team this afternoon."
German finished the game with 15 points and played 37 minutes. "When you have played four games in seven days and get over 30 minutes from Hollie, Jenna (35) and Rachel (32), you have to realize how badly our girls wanted this win. We held Christian Brothers to only 36 percent shooting from the field and I don't know of many teams that can do that," said the Lee coach. After shooting 48 percent in the first half, the Lady Bucs were only able to convert 25 percent of their field goal attempts in the second 20 minutes and were held to just six field goals.
Lee dominated all phases of the game, out-rebounding the visitors 39-26 and committing just 11 turnovers compared to 17 for the losers. The Lady Flames finished the contest with a 41 percent shooting mark from the field. They struggled a bit from 3-point range, making only 7-of-24 and made 17-of-25 free-throw attempts.
While Ridgell produced 14 points, no other Lady Buc had more than six points as CBU fell to 7-5 and 3-3 in the GSC.
Lee will get a brief break before hitting the road and facing West Alabama on Thursday evening in Livingston. The Lady Flames will wrap up the road trip next Saturday by going back to Alabama and testing Huntsville.
