Lee Runner Named NCCAA Athlete of the Week

Harold Smith broke the 8k school record with a time of 25:00.95 last Saturday

Lee men's cross country runner Harold Smith has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)  Student-Athlete of the Week after a record-setting performance at the Greater Louisville Classic last Saturday.

Smith helped guide the Flames to a 10th-place finish in the event and becomes Lee's second runner to win the NCCAA weekly award joining teammate Seth Eagleson.

The local product from Bradley Central High School was the top finisher for the Flames as he crossed the finish line of the 8K race at 25:00.95 to place eighth overall. Smith broke the school record for the 8k run which was previously set by Johnny Clemmons (25:25) back in 2008.

"Harold's performance was unbelievable. He ran better than a lot of DI team's top man and ran the same time as UT's No. 1 did in the gold race," said head coach Caleb Morgan.

Smith and the Flames will have a couple of weeks off before they head to Hardeeville, S.C. to run in the Sand Shark Invitational on Oct. 25. The event will be the final tune-up before the Gulf South Conference Championships in Hoover, Ala. on Nov. 8.
