Flames Split Doubleheader At Union

Series Finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Andres Nelo delivered three RBI in Lee's 4-1 game two win at Union.

JACKSON, Tenn. – Runs were at a premium Saturday evening at Union University's Fesmire Field. Lee fell to the hosts 4-1 in the opener and needed extra innings to win game two by the same score in the Gulf South Conference opener for both teams.

The Flames (7-2, 1-1 GSC) and Bulldogs (3-2, 1-1 GSC) will face off in the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
LEE 4, UNION 1 (GAME 2)
Andres Nelo was the offensive hero for the Flames. His RBI ground out in the fifth inning tied the game at 1-1 and he delivered a two-out two-run single in the ninth to give Lee the lead.

Seth Gower was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the win. Zacary Hawkins doubled, while Josh Silver and Siosi Poti each tallied one single.

Nikolay Uherek scattered five hits and allowed just one run over seven innings, but did not figure into the decision. The right-hander struck out 13 Union batters.

Kyle Briner pitched the final two innings and picked up the win. Briner (1-0) gave up one hit and fanned two Bulldogs.
Cody Cunningham was charged with the loss. He gave up three runs, four hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings.
 
UNION 4, LEE 1 (GAME 1)
Back-to-back two out doubles by Derrick Pitts and Zacary Hawkins gave Lee an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Union would plate four runs in the fourth inning to earn the win.

Josh Tate led the Flames at the plate. The catcher was 4-for-4 with a double.

Silver was the only other Lee batter with multiple hits. The shortstop ended the game 2-for-5, including a double. Nelo legged out a two-bagger for his lone hit of the game.

Caleb Warnimont was a big offensive presence for Union. He was 4-for-4 and stole two bases. Trae Bain added two safeties.

Jeremy Stawychny allowed four runs on six hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings and was charged with the loss. His season record drops to 2-1.

Colin Hatch gave up nine hits and one run over seven innings as he picked up the win. Hatch (1-0) walked one and struck out five. Preston Thompson pitched the final two innings to earn his first save of the season.
