Softball Takes Series With 7-2 Victory Over Union

Macias' Five RBI Lead Lady Flames in Game Two

JACKSON, Miss.- After dropping game one of Sunday's doubleheader the Lee softball team battled back to take game two and earn the 2-1 series victory over Union University.

The Lady Flames now stand at 5-4 on the young season. The loss drops Union to 5-4 overall.

After having last week's home opener snowed out Lee will finally open up play at Butler Field on Tuesday when they welcome North Georgia to town. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Lee 7, Union 2
Led by Senior Meg Macias' four hits and five RBI the Lady Flames topped Union 7-2 in Sunday's nightcap.

Macias started the scoring with a RBI single in the first inning to give Lee a 1-0 advantage. After Ana Coscorrosa singled home a run in the fifth it was Macias again who delivered a two-run double to open up a 4-0 advantage. The Lady Flames would cap the four-run fifth with a RBI groundout by Amber Broome.

Macias would capped off her stellar day and the scoring in the contest with a two-run homer to left in the seventh inning to extend the Lee margin to 7-2.

Freshman Annabeth Pruett (2-0) started for Lee and made the lead stand as she went the distance giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits in seven innings of work. She struck out two and walked one.

Alex Williams (1-1) was tagged with the loss for Union. She worked 6 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on 12 hits. Cummings worked the final 2/3 innings in relief.

The Lady Flames comeback effort came up short in game one as they fell to Union 7-5.

Lee battled back from a six-run deficit to make things interesting late in the contest but the Lady Bulldogs, clinging to a two-run lead, slammed the door in the top of the seventh as Union starter Robey struck out the side to preserve the victory.

Angie Hughes (3-3) started for Lee and worked 2 1/3 innings giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits. The sophomore walked three and struck out a batter. Freshman Annabeth Pruett came in relief for the Lady Flames and gave up just one run on one hit in 3 2/3 innings of work. She walked two and fanned five batters.

Lizzie Stevens got things going offensively for the Lady Flames in the fourth inning a she smashed a two-run homer to left center. Ana Coscorrosa finished with a single and a run scored.

Lee would score twice in the sixth thanks to a Union error and a Dominique Hannah RBI single.

Robey (4-3) got the win inside the circle for Union. She tossed a complete-game, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits. Robey walked four but recorded eight strikeouts, including three straight in the final inning to short circuit the Lee comeback effort.

Union opened up the six-run lead thanks to the longball. Christian drilled a three-run shot to left in the second inning and Schrader chased Hughes from the game with a two-run homer in the third inning. Williams started the scoring with a RBI double in the first inning.
