Playing in front of the Butler Field home crowd for the first time this season the Lee softball team (5-6) dropped both games of a doubleheader with the University of North Georgia (9-5) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Flames will look to get back on the winning track when they travel to Huntsville, Ala. to tangle with Gulf South Conference foe Alabama-Huntsville for a three-game set beginning Saturday at 3 p.m.
Lee 1, UNG 4
The Lady Flames were unable to overcome a three-run fifth inning as they fell to North Georgia in Tuesday's nightcap, 4-1.
Freshmen Annabeth Pruett (2-1) started game two for the Lady Flames and went the distance allowing four runs on eight hits. She struck out one and walked one.
Victoria Sink (4-1) tallied the win for North Georgia as she kept Lee off balance for much of game two. Sink worked all seven innings giving up just one run on five hits. She struck out three and walked only one.
Ana Coscorrosa got the Lady Flames on the board in the first inning as she roped a single to center to score Amanda Lynn and tie things up at 1-1. Lexie Dean, Lizzie Stevens, Jesse Giles and Lynn all tallied singles for Lee.
Kim McMillian delivered the knockout blow for the Nighthawks. The first basemen drilled three-run homer to right field in the bottom of the fifth to put the visitors up 4-1. Meagan May added a pair of hits while Sarah Johnson singled in a run in the first inning to give UNG an early advantage.
Lee 5, UNG 10
The Lady Flames fell behind early and were unable to overcome a pair of four-run innings in losing game one to North Georgia by a 10-5 margin.
Walks came back to haunt Lee starter Angie Hughes. The sophomore walked three-straight Nighthawks to start the game before surrendering a grand slam to Jessica Finch.
Hughes (3-4) worked the full seven innings giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits. She struck out four but yielded six walks.
Lee chipped away at the early deficit with solo runs in the first three innings. Lizzie Stevens and Ana Cosocorrosa delivered RBI singles in the first and second innings respectively.
Meg Macias would bring Lee within a run when she belted a solo home run to left in the third. Macias would also add a solo shot in the fifth inning and now has a team-high three four-baggers on the season.
The Lady Flames would draw no closer however as North Georgia added four more runs in the fourth inning to give starter Courtney Poole (5-4) some breathing room. Poole gave up five runs on nine hits over seven innings of work. She struck out six and walked four in the victory.
