HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The Lee University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against No. 3 University of Alabama Huntsville on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Flames now sit at 5-8 on the year and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference The victory propels the Lady Chargers to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in conference games.
The two clubs will wrap up the series with a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
LEE 4, UAH 9
Despite scoring three runs in the top of the first the Lady Flames were unable to cool off the hot bats of UAH, falling 9-4 in Saturday's nightcap.
Lee recorded 10 hits in the contest but only one went for extra bases. Lexie Dean doubled and added a pair of singles in four trips. Leadoff hitter Amanda Lynn also finished 3-for-4 and scored twice.
The Lady Chargers grabbed the lead with a four-run fourth as they sent nine batters to the plate. UAH put away any doubt in the sixth when they tallied four more runs thanks to a Tyler Harrison two-run double and a Haley Thompson two-run single.
Harrison finished 3-for-4 to lead the 12-hit flurry for Alabama-Huntsville. Mary Kelly added a pair of singles and drove in two.
Emily Glover (4-1) started and worked six innings for the win. She gave up four runs (two earned) on eight hits.
Hailey Clark (0-2) was tagged with the loss for the Lady Flames. The freshmen pitched three innings giving up four runs on five hits while walking three.
LEE 1, UAH 8
The Lady Flames mustered just four hits in an 8-1 loss to UAH in game one on Saturday.
Macie Couey got the Lady Chargers going with a two-run triple to highlight a three-run second for the home team. Alabama-Huntsville opened things up with a four-run fourth thanks to costly Lee errors before Couey would strike again with a solo homer in the sixth to cap the scoring.
Whitney Toler (3-0) remained perfect on the season in the circle of the Lady Chargers. She worked 5 2/3 innings giving up just one run while striking out four.
Lee's Angie Hughes (3-5) was tagged with the loss. The sophomore worked five-plus innings giving up seven hits and eight runs (six earned.) Hughes was again her own worst enemy giving up seven walks. Freshman Hailey Clark worked a scoreless inning in relief for the Lady Flames.
Lee's offensive was led by Dominique Hannah who finished 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Lexie Dean and Meg Macias each singled in the game. Ana Coscorrosa drove in the lone run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
