LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The Lee University women's tennis team lost its first Gulf South Conference (GSC) match of the season by a 7-2 score at the University of West Alabama.
West Alabama (9-2, 2-2 GSC) swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky lost 8-3 to Natalia Cardenas and Stanzi Stuijt. Jodie Rice and Krista Good fell by the same score to Christina Bettag and Shannon McEvoy. Kelsey Lovingood and Annie Sandberg were beaten by Dasha Popova and Sandra Florez, 8-2.
Lee (2-3, 2-1 GSC) won the No. 1 and No. 6 singles matches, but lost the middle four. McGraner earned a little revenge on Cardenas at No 1 singles. McGraner held on for a 7-6 win in the opening set before losing the second, 6-0. McGraner would earn the win with a 6-2 margin in the third set. Morgan Friedlander defeated Kathryn Adams in straight sets to claim the win at No. 6 singles, 6-4 and 6-2.
The Lady Flames remain on the road to face the University of North Alabama Saturday morning. The GSC match is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
