Box Score 2 The Lee University Women's Tennis team completed a long Saturday of action with a 9-0 defeat of Emmanuel College at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames fell 5-2 earlier in the day to Gulf South Conference foe Delta State University.
The Lady Flames' win combined with the men's win gave Lee head coach Tony Cavett his 300th coaching victory. His record now stands at 300-249 overall, including a 154-113 mark with the Lady Flames.
Lee has three matches remaining on its regular season schedule. The Lady Flames travel to Gainesville, Ga., to take on Brenau University on Tuesday and travel to face the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Thursday before returning home to entertain Auburn University at Montgomery on April 16.
LEE 9, EMMANUEL 0The Lady Flames (4-11) took little time to defeat the short-handed Lady Lions (3-7). Emmanuel contested the match with four individuals. As a result, Lee entered the match holding default wins at No 3 doubles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles.
Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky took down Christianne Tetley and Oliva Gish, 8-2. Kelsey Lovingood and Annie Sandberg put Lee over the top with its match-clinching point with an 8-4 margin over Madalena Fausto and Jaclyn Klerk.
Lee won all four completed singles matches in straight sets. McGraner was a 6-1, 6-0 victor over Tetley. Yowarsky won both sets over Gish by 6-3 scores. Sandberg and Good defeated Fausto and Klerk, respectively, by matching 6-0, 6-1 marks.
DELTA STATE 5, LEE 2The Lady Flames (2-7 GSC) carried a 2-1 lead into the singles competition. McGraner and Yowarsky downed Sophia Luisa Niemeyer and Hidemi Mayeshiro, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles. Lovingood and Sandberg were 8-6 winners over Sara Alvarez-Rubio and Hiristina Koceva. Jodie Rice and Krista Good dropped the No. 2 doubles match, 8-3, to Alex Howe and Katharina Assmann.
Delta State (5-10, 3-5 GSC) claimed 4-of-6 singles matches to earn the win. Howe defeated Yowarsky 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Mayeshiro was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sandberg. Assmann won both sets by a 6-1 score against Rice and Koceva won the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Morgan Friedlander.
The No. 1 and No. 5 singles matches were unfinished. McGraner won her first set over Niemeyer, 6-4, and was leading 4-1 in the second set when the team-match was decided. Good lost a first-set tie-breaker 7-3 to Alvarez-Rubio and trailed 3-1 in the second set.
