Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Lee University women's tennis team won its second-straight match with a 7-2 decision over West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference (GSC) match at the Sunset Hills Country Club. The Lady Flames improved to 2-1 and are now 1-1 in the GSC. West Georgia had a four-match win streak snapped and are now 4-3 overall (0-3 GSC).
Jodie Rice and Christy North started the momentum for Lee with an 8-1 win over Whitney Maples and Nicole Northrup at No. 3 doubles. Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky defeated Taylor Lefton and Gabby Chanthaphaeng, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles. West Georgia received a win at the No. 2 slot to cut the Lady Flames' lead to 2-1 heading into singles action.
Morgan Friedlander made quick work of Sierra Brown (6-3, 6-0) at No. 6 singles. McGraner won both sets over Northrup by 6-1 margins and Rice sealed the team victory at No. 5 singles. Rice defeated Maples, 6-4 and 6-1. Marta Garcia-Nieto won her No. 2 singles match by the same scores.
Chanthaphaeng edged Yowarsky (6-2, 7-6) for the Wolves' lone singles win. Good dropped her first set to Sara Watson (6-4), fought back to with the second set 7-5 and gave Lee a final team point with a 10-7 score in a super tie-breaker.
The Lady Flames get back to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they host Montevallo University. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
