Lady Flames Win Fourth Straight

Sweep Weekend Matches In Georgia

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Lee University women's tennis team won a pair of matches over the weekend to run its win streak to four. The Lady Flames (4-1) defeated Belmont Abbey College, 9-0, on Friday and turned around to defeat host Emmanuel College by the same score Saturday morning.

Lee will return to action on Wednesday, March 4, when they host Shorter University at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Gulf South Conference match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

"The women did another good job, we took care of business," said head coach Patric Hynes. "We are looking forward to some great challenges with conference play next week."

 
LADY FLAMES 9, EMMANUEL 0
Wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, combined with default wins at No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles gave Lee a quick 5-0 lead and the match win over the Lady Lions (0-5). Krista Good and Marta Garcia-Nieto was 8-0, while Tonya McGraner and Maclain Yowarsky were 8-1 winners.

McGraner and Garcia-Nieto won their singles matches by the same 6-0, 6-1 scores. Morgan Friedlander and Christy North earned straight-set victories without dropping a game.

 
LADY FLAMES 9, BELMONT ABBEY 0
Belmont Abbey (2-6) competed with just four players giving Lee default wins at No. 3 doubles, No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles.

McGraner and Yowarsky defeated Katharine Miller and Alex Weber, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles and the team of Garcia-Nieto and Good clinched the team win with an 8-4 advantage over Erika Noblett and Meghan Philp.

Garcia-Nieto dropped just one game in her No. 2 singles win. Good won her opening set 6-0 and held on for a 6-3 second set win.

Yowarsky outlasted Noblett, 7-5, in the first set of the No. 3 singles match and recorded the team point with a 6-3 score in the second set.

McGraner recovered from a 6-3 setback in the opening set and forced a third set with a 6-1 mark in the second. The senior eventually earned the win at No. 1 singles with a 12-10 score in the third and deciding set.
