Gym-Masters Making Annual Appearance

Elementary School Readers Will Gain Share Of Spotlight

GYM-MASTERS HIGHLIGHT THURSDAY'S ACTION
A couple of major events are scheduled for Walker Arena on Thursday evening when the Lee University basketball teams host the University of West Alabama in a Gulf South Conference doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.

The world famous Gym Masters from Southern Adventist University will be making their annual appearance at halftime of the men's game. It is a great time to see these athletes in action.

Also Lee is teaming with Bradley County Schools to help promote the importance of reading programs. All elementary students attending the games will receive a free book, popcorn and drink.

"We are excited to be working with Dr. (Linda) Cash, the Director of Bradley County Schools and Heather Byrd, the System-wide Reading Coordinator, on this event," said Lee Athletic Director Larry Carpenter."

Carpenter added that some of the Lee athletes will be reading to the students after they receive their books.

Admission to all regular season basketball games is free to all Cleveland and Bradley County residents.

IT AIN'T OVER TIL IT IS OVER
As the late Yogi Berra once said, 'It ain't over til it is over." That certainly could be the case as the women's race in the Gulf South Conference heads down toward the regular-season stretch.

The Lady Flames are tied for second place in the GSC standings with Delta State (13-4) heading into this week's games. West Alabama and West Georgia come to Walker Arena, but Union University (15-2), ranked 11th in Division II play, is on the road at Valdosta State and West Florida. Delta State (ranked 22 in D2) must visit Alabama Huntsville and North Alabama, a couple of teams that have picked their games up in recent weeks.

ROWE REFUSES TO LOOK AHEAD
While coach Rowe knows Union and Delta State are on the road, he refuses to look past West Alabama and West Georgia, especially after close calls last week in home wins against Huntsville and North Alabama.

Said Rowe, "We're excited to get back to work this week and have the opportunity to compete against West Alabama and West Georgia. Both teams are much improved since early January and it'll be a great chance to see if we are able to learn from last weekend.

"We respect both these teams and they both have excellent guard play, so we're going to need to be good guarding the ball this weekend. Hopefully we can start making some really positive strides this week and gear up for this tough stretch run."
