Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Lee University women's tennis team lost for the first time this season with a 9-0 defeat at No. 6 University of West Florida. The Lady Flames will now travel to Livingston, Ala., to face the University of West Alabama at 12 p.m. EST Sunday.
The Lady Flames dropped to 5-1 and 1-1 in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). West Florida improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the GSC.
Francesca Tondi and Joanna Grzegrzolka lost 8-2 to Paula Lopez and Nina Bubelova. Maclain Yowarsky and Marta Garcia Nieto were defeated 8-1 by Valeria Mantilla and Giovana Patitucci. Morgan Friedlander and Laura Beth Hardesty fell by the same score to Kat Dikosavljevic and Lisa May.
In singles action, Tondi lost her first set against Vlad, 6-3, before forcing a final tie-breaker with a 6-4 win in the second set. Vlad earned the No. 1 singles win by a 10-8 score in the tie-breaker.
Krista Good was edged 7-5 by Erica Eriksson in the first set of their No. 5 singles match and lost 6-1 in the second set. Grzegrzolka was a 6-2, 6-1 victim of Heather Mixon. Friedlander lost 6-0, 6-1 to Patitucci, while Garcia Nieto and Yowarsky were blanked by Flores and Mantilla, respectively.
