Lee University women's tennis recorded its second-straight victory with a 7-2 decision over the University of West Georgia Monday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames improved to 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the Gulf South Conference.
Joanna Grzegrzolka and Morgan Friedlander posted an 8-0 blanking of Shelby Brown and Whitney Maples to put Lee on the board first. Gaby Chanthaphaeng and Taylor Lefton evened the score for West Georgia (1-4, 1-4 GSC) with an 8-2 win over Maclain Yowarsky and Laura Beth Hardesty.
Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto found themselves in a battle at No. 1 doubles with Sara Watson and Jordan England. In a match full of long rallies, the Lee duo came away with an 8-4 margin.
Krista Good shut out Maples (6-0, 6-0) at No. 5 singles to push Lee's lead to 3-1. Tondi dropped just two games to Watson and Grzegrzolka secured the team win with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Chanthaphaeng.
Garcia-Nieto battled back to defeat Lefton 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Friedlander held off Brown for a 6-3, 7-5 triumph.
England outlasted Yowarsky, 7-5 and 6-4, to gain the Wolves' second point and supply the final score.
The Lady Flames will join the Flames on Wednesday for a trip to Rome, Ga., to face Shorter University. The GSC matches are scheduled for a 2 p.m. EST start.
