Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lee University women's tennis team dropped its second consecutive match with an 8-1 loss at Young Harris College. The non-conference match was played at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. The Lady Flames (12-7) travel to Banner Elk, N.C., to take on Lees-McRae College on Friday at 2 p.m. EDT.
Young Harris (9-4) swept the doubles competition to carry an early 3-0 lead. Maclain Yowarsky and Laura Beth Hardesty were beaten 8-2 by Oriana Labaqui and Laura Sanchez at No. 2 doubles. Elin Rundcrantz and Maria Puerta doubled up Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto, 8-4. In the No. 3 slot, Morgan Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka were outlasted by Carolina Hernandez and Kadie Hudgins, 9-7.
Puerta lost one game in winning against Yowarsky, while Diana DiMarco recorded matching 6-1 match scores against Friedlander at No. 6 singles to secure the team win.
Garcia-Nieto won two games in her first set against Hernandez, but was shut out in the second set. Krista Good lost 6-3, 6-4 to Sanchez.
Grzegrzolka lost 6-1 in her opening set against Labaqui before forcing a third set with a 6-4 margin in the second set. Labaqui earned the match win with a 10-7 mark in the super-set tie-breaker.
Tondi ended the host's shutout bid with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rundcrantz at No. 1 singles.
