Box Score BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Lee University women's tennis team ended a two-match losing streak with an 8-1 non-conference win at Lees-McRae College. The Lady Flames return home on March 30 to face Tennessee Wesleyan College. The non-conference affair is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the DeVos Tennis Center.
Morgan Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka defeated Rebecca Pierce and Amanda Chapman, 8-1, to give Lee (13-7) the early lead. Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto added to the team lead with an 8-0 blanking of Caroline Green and Hillary Lutz.
Lees-McRae (1-7) ended the Lady Flames' shutout bid with an 8-4 win by Mackenzie Langmade and Taylor Bost over Laura Beth Hardesty and Maclain Yowarsky at No. 2 doubles.
Yowarsky avenged her doubles loss with a 6-0, 6-1 takedown of Pierce. Tondi was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Green to move Lee to within one point of the team victory. Grzegrzolka beat Lutz 6-3 and 6-1 to secure the fifth team point.
Garcia-Nieto won both sets by a 6-2 margin against Langmade at the No. 3 singles slot. Friedlander dropped just two games in a straight-set win over Chapman. Krista Good beat Bost 6-2, 6-2 to supply the final team score.
