Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. – The Lee University women's tennis team finished its spring break trip to the Orlando area with two wins on Wednesday to complete the stay with a 5-0 mark. The Lady Flames defeated St. Cloud University, 6-3, in Winter Haven, then traveled to Kissimmee where they shut out Alderson Broaddus University, 9-0.
The Lady Flames (12-5) will return to action on March 15 against The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The Gulf South Conference match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. EDT start at the DeVos Tennis Center.
Lady Flames 9, Alderson Broaddus 0At the Star Island Resort & Club, Lee allowed just four points in sweeping the doubles competition on its way to a shutout of the Battlers (1-9). Morgan Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka beat Taylor England and Nicole Martin, 8-0. Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto won by the same score against Stephanie Gertsakis and Jordyn Walker. Maclain Yowarsky teamed with Laura Beth Hardesty to double-up Mireia Fabrega and Eva Sever, 8-4.
Tondi and Krista Good won their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 marks. Hardesty dropped just one game to Chelsea Jefferson at No. 5 singles. Yowarsky posted matching 6-1 scores in both sets against England.
Garcia-Nieto won 6-2, 6-1 against Sever and Nicole Shennett was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Nneoma Amaechi.
Lady Flames 6, St. Cloud State 3Lee won all three doubles matches and claimed wins at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 5 singles to hold off the Huskies (5-5) at the Winter Haven Tennis Club.
Tondi and Garcia-Nieto were 8-5 victors over Alexie Portz and Jill Kedrowski at No. 1 doubles. Friedlander and Grzegrzolka held off Fernanda Quintino dos Santos and Miranda Wynkoop, 8-6. Yowarsky and Hardesty outlasted Abigail Kantor and Jordee Matson, 9-7.
Grzegrzolka defeated Portz 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Kedrowski blanked Yowarski 6-0, 6-0 to end Lee's shutout bid. Quintino dos Santos won 6-0, 6-3 against Friedlander to cut the Lee advantage to 4-2.
Tondi secured the team victory with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over El O'Brien. Good defeated Matson by the same scores at the No. 5 slot.
Garcia-Nieto won her first set 6-2, but Kantor was the second set, 6-3, and the final super set, 10-6, to provide the final team margin.
