The Lee University women's tennis team lost its second straight match with a 7-2 loss to visiting Carson-Newman University. The Lady Flames (14-9) have little time to recover before hosting Georgetown College on Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT.
Carson-Newman (13-4) grabbed a 2-0 lead after the first two completed doubles matches. Gabrielle Wood and Mallory Jackson defeated Morgan Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles. Jill Corsato and Patricia Guerreiro won by the same mark over Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto.
The Lady Flames picked up a doubles win at the No. 2 slot. Maclain Yowarsky and Laura Beth Hardesty held on to beat Ali Harris and Brooke Sanderson, 9-7.
At No. 1 singles, the Eagles' Harris defeated Tondi 6-4 and 6-4. Corsato carried the momentum from a 7-4 tie-breaker in the opening set to win the second set 6-1.
Garcia-Nieto gave Lee its second team point with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sanderson at the No. 3 position to extend the team competition.
Jackson edged Yowarsky 6-4 in the opening set and earned the fifth team point with a 6-1 margin in set No. 2. Chastain was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Friedlander. Wood edged Krista Good 6-4 in their opening set. Good forced a third set with a 6-2 mark in the second set, but Wood outlasted Good 10-8 to earn the three-set victory.
