Softball Welcomes No. 21 Chargers To Butler Field

The Lady Flames will look to slug their way past the No. 21 Chargers this weekend.

After opening the season with an impressive 9-3 mark the Lee softball team will now begin conference play with a three-game set against No. 21 Alabama Huntsville beginning today at 2 p.m.

HOME COOKING
The Lady Flames are currently riding an 11-game winning streak dating back to last year at Butler Field. Lee is 4-0 this season with doubleheader sweeps of Montevallo and Tennessee Wesleyan.

CHARGERS FIRST VISIT TO BUTLER
Due to inclement weather the last couple of seasons the Chargers will be making their first trip to Lee University over the last four seasons. Home dates for Lee in 2013 and 2015 were canceled or moved to Huntsville due to poor weather conditions.

After a strong week in the Sunshine State, UAH's Tyler Harrison was selected as the GSC Pitcher of the Week.

Last week against a trio of Sunshine State Conference opponents, Harrison went 2-1 with an 0.34 ERA. The senior totaled an impressive 24 strikeouts while walking none in 20.1 innings pitched.

Offensively the Chargers are led by Kaitlyn Bannister who is hitting .487 with five doubles, two home runs and 19 RBI on the young season.

MCKINNEY NAMED GSC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Abby McKinney was named the GSC Freshman of the Week after pitching and hitting the Lady Flames to a 5-1 mark last week.

The Ringgold, Ga. native was a perfect 3-0 in the circle with a 2.92 ERA claiming wins over Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday and Tusculum and Ursuline on Saturday. McKinney struck out 12 and walked just two batters in 12 innings of work. She is now 5-1 on the season for the Lady Flames.

At the dish the powerful lefty was equally impressive. McKinney hit .619 and drove in 10 runs. She is currently leading the team with a sizzling .600 average and 15 RBI.

ON DECK
Following this weekend's series the Lady Flames will travel to Lincoln Memorial for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. Lee jumps back into GSC play with a three-game home series against Delta State next weekend.
