Softball Set To Battle Delta State

Courtney Crawford sets the table for the Lee offense and is hitting .404 on the year.


The Lee softball team will welcome the Delta State Lady Statesmen to town for a three-game Gulf South Conference weekend series beginning on Saturday at 2 p.m. 

The Lady Flames enter at 10-5 and are 1-2 in league play after winning the final game of the series last weekend against No. 19 Alabama Huntsville.

FRESHMAN FIRE
Abby McKinney has wasted little time adjusting to the college ranks as she leads the team with a .526 batting average while also posting a 5-2 record in the circle.

Freshman Taylor Moran has also produced early on with a 1-1 record, 3.07 ERA and a pair of saves for the Lady Flames. Brooklynn Frazier, a freshman  from Chattanooga, leads the team with 18 RBI and two home runs.

FAMILIAR FACES 
Senior leadoff hitter Courtney Crawford is hitting at a .404 clip and scored 13 runs. Junior Leigh Beatenbough is posting a .400 average while also sporting a 4-2 record and team-leading 2.42 ERA as the team's ace.

As a team the Lady Flames are currently third in the GSC with a .332  team batting average and are second with 135 hits.

SANDRIDGE, GIBSON LEAD DELTA
Mari Alex Sandridge leads the Mississippi club with a 1.68 ERA and has struck out 18 batters in 16.2 innings of work. Sandridge also swings the bat hitting .452 with a pair of home runs. Abi Gibson is batting .432 and has an OPS of 1.019 while leading her club with nine RBI.

The Lady Statesmen took one of three last weekend against West Alabama to open up conference play.

TOUGH STRETCH
The rugged schedule will not get any easier for coach Emily Russell and her Lady Flames. On Wednesday Lee will step outside of conference to visit No. 4 North Georgia. 

Next weekend the Lady Flames will begin a six-game road trip with stops to West Georgia and No. 24 and defending National Champions, North Alabama. Lee returns home to battle rival Shorter on Mar. 18-19 before hosting No. 6 Valdosta State on Mar. 25-26.
