The Lee University women's tennis team fell 5-2 to visiting University of North Alabama Saturday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.
North Alabama (6-3, 5-0 GSC) carried a 3-0 lead following doubles competition. Donna Haycock and Claudia Arroyo were 8-2 winners over Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto. Ana Webber and Laura Beth Hardesty fell 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. Joanna Grzegrzolka and Krista Good were doubled-up by Olivera Ngouabeu and Nele Seitz.
Lee (5-2, 2-2 GSC) fought back to win the first two singles matches to pull within one point. Tondi defeated Ngouabeu 6-2 and 6-0, while Grzegrzolka was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Arroyo.
Nina Linke posted a 6-3, 6-1 win over Garcia-Nieto and Claire DeGeorge knocked off Hardesty 6-4 and 6-2 to claim the team win. The final two matches were unfinished.
The Lady Flames will get back on the courts on Mar. 23 against The University of Alabama in Huntsville. The GSC match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
