Tennis Swept By West Alabama

Recognize Seniors Prior To Matches

Seniors Krista Good and Wes Lemke were recognized prior to Friday's matches.

The Lee University tennis teams were swept by visiting University of West Alabama Friday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center. The Lady Flames were defeated 5-2 and the Flames fell by a 5-1 margin.

Lee recognized its two senior members (Krista Good and Wes Lemke) prior to the matches.

The Lady Flames and Flames host Valdosta State University Saturday morning. The Blazers enter ranked No. 7 in the nation, while the Lady Blazers are No. 10. The Gulf South Conference matches are set to begin at 10 a.m. EDT
 
No. 22 UWA 5, LADY FLAMES 2
The 22nd-ranked Tigers (13-6, 7-2 GSC) won two of the three doubles matches and picked up three singles matches to clinch the team competition. Teona Tatishvili and Andrea Tomassone defeated Good and Nicole Shennett, 8-2, at the No. 3 slot, while the 15th-ranked team of Amina Mukhametshina and Georgina Morral doubled-up Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto, 8-4.

The Lady Flames (7-4, 4-4 GSC) earned their doubles victory in the second spot. Joanna Grzegrzolka and Laura Beth Hardesty took down Evelyn Moreno and Liliana Araucz, 8-3.

Tondi trailed Mukhametshina (ranked No. 31) 1-0 in the opening set before retiring due to injury. Grzegrzolka earned her second win of the day with matching 6-1 set scores against Moreno.

Morral was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Good at No. 4 singles and Tatishvili delivered the fifth team point with a three-set win over Garcia-Nieto.
 
No. 41   UWA 5, FLAMES 1
West Alabama (8-13, 5-3 GSC) grabbed a 3-0 lead following doubles competition and claimed two-of-three singles matches to end the Flames' three-match win streak. Lee dropped to 9-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Honorio Fernandez and Anton Lof beat Daniel Prata and Lemke, 8-2, to open the scoring. Julius Kaverinen and Henrik Sinkko held off Rhys Milne and Igor Schattan for an 8-5 win. Christopher Wood and Andrii Stratiienko needed a tie-breaker score of 7-2 to secure the doubles sweep.

Milne ended UWA's hopes of a shutout with a 6-4 and 6-2 defeat of Kaverinen. Stratiienko defeated Jake Okines 6-4, 6-4 to pull UWA within one point of the win. Teodor Deljanovski won his first set against Fernandez 6-1, but was unable to maintain the momentum in losing the final two sets 6-2 and 6-4.
