CLINTON, S.C. – The Lady Flames tennis team dropped an exhibition match to Division I Presbyterian, 6-1 on Saturday.
Lee had to default one doubles match and two singles matches as an illness hit the team forcing it to play two people down the entire day.
After automatically dropping the No. 3 doubles, Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto lost at No. 1 doubles, 6-4 to Caroline Ferrari and Tracy Johnson for Presbyterian to clinch the doubles point.
Carley Sickinger and Nicole Shennett would force a tiebreaking set before falling 7-6 (5) to Katie Thompson and Ella Rowley to finish the doubles competition.
Tondi would win the one seed match over Brittany Nuttall in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to get the lone point, and the only set victories on the day for the Lady Flames.
Garcia-Neito lost to Beth Taylor 6-1, 6-0. Sickinger would lose to Demi Henschel 6-4 in a first set battle before dropping the second set 6-1. Shennett would lose the final match of the day to Rowley 6-0, 6-0.
The Lady Flames are back in action next Saturday as they take on Carson Newman to wrap up the three-game road trip to start the season. Coach Patric Hynes and Lee return to Cleveland for their home and Gulf South Conference opener Feb. 20 as they take on West Georgia with first serve beginning at 2 p.m.
