Lady Flames Set to Host West Georgia Friday, Saturday

The Lady Flames are anxious to get back out on the court after having last weekend's games postponed.
Coach Marty Rowe will send his (2-1) Lady Flames back into action on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (2 p.m.) when they face West Georgia (4-1). Lee has not been in action since a Dec. 19 overtime loss at Valdosta State. Last week games scheduled at Montevallo were postponed.

The Wolves are coming off a pair of convincing home wins against Shorter University. Their only loss came at Valdosta State on Dec. 12. They are averaging almost 73 points while allowing 66. The Lady Flames are scoring at a 76-point pace and allowing over 63.

"West Georgia is extremely talented and athletic in all spots. When they shoot it well, they are very hard to handle," pointed out Coach Rowe. "Playing last weekend and working off some rust will definitely work to their advantage, but we're excited to be back on the court. Should be a great series! It has been a while since we last played, but in this season of uncertainties all we can do is keep focusing on what's in front of us. So, we are not concerned with the layoff. We're just grateful for the opportunity to play again," he concluded.

The Wolves feature a balanced scoring attack with eight players averaging over eight points. Taylor Brown, a 5-foot-8 junior guard, leads the way with an 11.7 average. Siera Carter, a 5-9 junior guard, follows at 10.7 and Lanee' Edwards, a 5-foot-4 sophomore, is at 9.8 points while Zaris Bankston, a 5-foot-9 guard, is averaging 9.2 points. Four other players contribute nearly nine points per outing. Morgan Perkins goes to the glass to average eight boards while appearing in just four contests with no starts. Carter followers with 6.3 boards.

The Lady Flames will counter with junior All-GSC guard Haley Schubert, who is averaging over 20 points, 5.3 rebounds and nine steals over three games. Freshman Julia Duncan averages almost 11 points and eight steals per start. Redshirt senior Maddie Long stands at an even 10 points. Transfer Hannah Garrett has tallied nine points per contest and senior Halle Hughes counters with eight markers. Long, Garrett and Hughes go to the glass for five rebounds each, but junior Cam Grant equals Schubert in the rebounding stats at 5.3 over three games.

Checking the GSC standings: In the East Division Valdosta, a team the Lady Flames will host in a rematch on Jan 15 and 16, is off to a 5-0 start. West Georgia (4-1) and Lee (2-1) follow. West Florida (1-1), Montevallo (1-2), Shorter (1-5) and Auburn Montgomery (0-4) round out the East. The West is paced by West Alabama (2-0), Mississippi College and Union (3-1). Auburn Montgomery (2-2), Christian Brothers (0-2) and usually always strong Delta State completes the chart (0-4).

The Friday and Saturday Lady Flames' broadcasts will be aired on 101.3 FM (Buzz) and the Lee livestream will also be available. Flames back in action: The Lee men (0-1) have not played since falling at West Florida on Dec. 12 and then playing an exhibition at East Tennessee State the following week. They were disappointed when their first home dates were cancelled. They were scheduled to host Montevallo in a pair of contests this past weekend. While the Flames are looking for their first win, their weekend opponent, West Georgia, is 1-3, but lost three straight battles by a total of 16 points before bouncing back to defeat Shorter last Sunday.

How to catch all the action - Attendance at Walker Arena is still limited to just family of players but fans can watch and follow live stats of both the men's and women's games this weekend by visiting https://leeuflames.com/coverage.
