No. 23 Lady Flames Prepare for Lady Statesmen, Choctaws

The No. 23 Lady Flames will be seeking to enter the Christmas break on a winning note when they host Delta State University on Friday at 6 p.m. and Mississippi College on Sunday at 2 p.m. inside Paul Dana Walker Arena. Coach Marty Rowe's club is in the middle of a five-game winning streak and is 8-2 overall and 7-0 in Gulf South Conference action. Delta State is 5-7, 4-4, while Mississippi College stands at 2-6, 3-8. 
 
Fast-Starting Offense 
Over the past two games the Lady Flames have scored 97 points during the first two quarters before finishing the contest with 92 points against Auburn Montgomery and 78 in the win at Shorter. Coach Rowe used 12 available players in both games. Five scored in double figures in each game. Lee blistered the nets at a 61% clip in the second period against the Warhawks and finished the evening at 51%. Against the Lady Hawks, the Lady Flames opened the game at 61% before cooling off and finishing the action at 47%. 
                      
Hurst has Two Career-High Games 
In a pair of wins, Mia Hurst came off the bench to tally season-highs in both the AUM (16 points) and Shorter (18 points). For the week the transfer from UT-Martin hit 12-of-20 attempts overall and 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Hannah Garrett returned from a health condition to score 21 points in limited minutes. She made an impressive 9-of-14 shots. Lefty Morgan Carbaugh dialed in from long-range in both outings, making eight triples for all 24 of her points. 
 
With Anna Muhonen on the bench with a foot injury, Macy Woodworth has stepped up. She delivered 21 points in the two decisions and hit on 7-of-12 shots while adding 11 rebounds. The "Energizer Bunny" Haley Schubert racked up 30 points in the pair of wins as she pushes closer to 2,000 points in her outstanding career. Schubert averages 18 points per game and Mallory Hampton follows at 13. Hampton is an excellent 3-point shooter, hitting over 59% of her attempts. She also paces the Lady Flames in assists with 43. Addison Smith is the rebounding leader, 5.1 per game. 
 
New Coach Directing Delta State 
Tracy Stewart-Lange is in her first season at Delta State and comes to the Lady Statesmen from Lyon College (Batesville, Ark.), where she served as head coach for 17 years and posted an impressive 366-167 record. 
 
The Lady Statesmen have picked up the scoring pace in three of their last four outings and have won three of the last four contests. They handed West Alabama its second conference loss of the season on Sunday (67-54) and will bring a 4-4 GSC mark and 5-7 overall. 
 
Camryn Davis is the DSU leading scorer (13 ppg) and rebounder (6.3 rpg). Michelle Smith and Alanna Smith follow at 11 ppg. Grace Watson is the club's second leading rebounder (5.6 rpg). The Lady Statesmen score 56.50 points per game and allow 58.83. 
 
Checking GSC Standings 
The Lady Flames stand all alone atop the conference standings (7-0). Valdosta State (5-1) holds down the second spot after handing Union University a defeat on Sunday afternoon. Union (4-2) was ranked fifth in the DII national poll before dropping back-to-back road games at West Florida and Valdosta. West Alabama is (5-2) after the lost to Delta State. Delta State (4-4), Auburn Montgomery (3-4), Montevallo (3-4), West Georgia (2-4) and Mississippi College (2-6) round out the GSC standings heading into the weekend. 
  
Coach Rowe's Comments 
"This weekend will be a great test for our team. Both teams play different styles so being able to adjust to each team will be important. Both teams are well coached, so we will need to be prepared on both ends of the playing floor."
