Lady Flames Face UAH in GSC Tourney Opener

Taylor De Adder and the Lady Flames will look to make some noise this week in the GSC Tournament.
The 2022 Gulf South Conference Softball Championship will return to Choccolocco Park and will be co-hosted by the City of Oxford, Alabama. It is the third time the championship will be played at Choccolocco Park. The tournament will be held May 4-7, 2022. The top eight teams in the GSC softball standings qualified for the tournament, which is a modified double-elimination format. The tournament winner will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

Auburn Montgomery earned the No.1 seed and will face No.8 Union University. Valdosta State is the No.2 seed and will be pitted against No. 7 West Alabama. West Florida locked down No. 3 and drew No. 6 Montevallo. Lee is No.5 and will test No. 4 Alabama Huntsville on Wednesday at 4:30 (Eastern).

The Lady Flames will enter the tournament with a 17-12 GSC record while the Chargers stand a 21-9 and have posted 14 straight wins since their last loss to West Florida on April 9. Lee defeated Alabama Huntsville 7-0 and 9-1 but lost 11-2 in a three-game series played on Butler Field back on March 26-27.

Nyah Vogel with a 14-8 pitching record and impressive 2.88 ERA, was the winner in the circle for the Lady Flames in both of those games. Taylor De Adder enjoyed a solid series at the plate, banging out five hits, including a pair of home runs and driving five runners across the plate. Overall, Breanna Patton is leading the Lee team in hitting with a .419 mark. She tops the club with 67 hits and 16 doubles. Sidney Lee is averaging .390 and a big .680 slugging percentage. Ana Macha follows at .371 and has stolen 16 bases in 20 attempts. De Adder paces the team in homers (8), RBI (41) and has only struck out 10 times in 133 at bats.

Said Lee Coach Emily Russell, "We have learned so much this year and continued to grow together as a team. We have seen the results of this growth recently winning close and extra-inning games, working out of jams, and taking advantage of scoring opportunities.  It has been a great regular season. We do have some setbacks with Nyah not able to go but the team prepared all year for these moments, and we are not changing our goals.  This is a tough team."
