Seven members of the Lee University Track & Field teams are making their final preparations to compete at the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will be held May 25-27 inside the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colorado with Colorado State University, Pueblo serving as host.
A total of 754 participants, 377 men and 377 women, will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching a provisional standard established for each event.
The Lady Flames will be represented by Jydia Faucette, Carissa Hall, Aria Hawkins, Eve Hine and Celine Ritter while Cale Kassen and Titus Lagat are the two Flames selected to compete.
Ritter and Hall were selected for two events each to lead the Lee contingent. Ritter will be part of the 1500 and 5000-meter runs, while Hall take on the 400-meter dash and long jump. Hawkins will join Ritter in the 1500. Hall will be joined by Hine in the 400 and by Faucette in the long jump. For the men, Kassen will compete in the 110-meter hurdles and Lagat the 800-meter run.
Ritter enters the weekend as the No. 2 seed in the 1500. Her time of 4:18.79 is just 0.07 seconds behind No. 1 side Eleonora Curatabbi of West Texas A&M. Hawkins is the 13
th seed with a qualifying time of 4:24.13. Ritter is the No. 16 seed in the 5000 with a mark of 16:25.65. Lindsay Cunningham of Winona State is the top seed at 15:45.91.
Hall is seeded No. 16 in the 400 with a time of 54.16. Hine enters with a seed time of 54.32 (No. 18). The top qualifying time is 51.80 by Shereen Vallabouy of Winona State.
Faucette and Hall are the final two seeds in the long jump. Faucette is 23
rd with a seed mark of 6.05 meters and Hall is No. 24 at 6.03 meters.
Kassen is the No. 2 seed in the 110 hurdles after posting a time of 13.50 seconds. Pittsburg State's Cordell Tinch is the No. 1 seed with a time of 12.97.
Lagat is the 12
th-seed in the 800 after qualifying with a time of 1:48.91. Oussama El Bouchayby of Angelo State is the No. 1 seed with a time of 1:45.31.

SCHEDULE
The first Lee athletes to see action will be Faucette and Hall in the long jump finals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. EDT. They are both part of the first of two flights. Ritter and Hawkins hit the track for the preliminary round of the 1500 at 7:10 with Ritter in the first heat and Hawkins in the second of two heats. The top four finishers of each heat plus the next four best times will advance to the event final.
Hall and Hine complete the opening day at 7:40 in the 400 preliminaries. Hall is part of the first of three heats, while Hine will run in the third heat. The top two of each heat along with the next three best times earn a spot in the final.
Kassen and Lagat are scheduled to begin competition on Friday with Lagat running the 800 preliminaries at 8:15 p.m. and Kassen in the prelims of the 110 hurdles at 8:50. Lagat will be in the first of three heats where the top two of each heat and the next three best times will move out of the preliminary round. Kassen is in the second of three heats. The top two in each heat and the next two best times advance to the final.
On Saturday, the final of the 1500 is set to begin at 7:35 p.m. The men's 110 hurdles final will be at 8:05 with the women's 400 final right after at 8:15. The men's 800 final will be held at 9:05 and Ritter completes the weekend in the 5000-meter final at 10:05.
