BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following the first day of competition in the Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Lee University Lady Flames hold a 25 point lead. Lee has amassed 92 points with six of 17 events completed. UAH is second with 67 points and Montevallo rounds out the top three with 32 points. The second and final day of the championships will be held on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Lady Flames swept the top three spots of the 5000-meter run. Aria Hawkins was the individual champion after crossing the finish line at 17:50.27. Ava Sparks was second at 17:50.71 and Capucine Cureau placed third with a time of 17:51.01. Sadie Wielfaert added one more point to the team total with an eighth place finish (18:17.17). Sawyer Simmons finished 10
th (18:30.62).
The foursome of Abi Moore, Annika Barrett, Kaylen Owen and Katie Beam finished second in the distance medley relay with a combined time of 11:57.17. Mississippi College was first with a time of 11:39.65.
Gracie Waite added another championship in the shot put with a measurement of 13.88 meters. Samara Brinks' throw of 12.57 meters put her in third place.
The Lady Flames claimed the top three spots on the pole vault. Brynn Depinet was the winner with a clearance of 3.85 meters. Addison Kohlmeier was second at 3.80 meters and Ayla Misavage went over 3.50 meters for third place.
Aubrey Anderson covered 5.61 meters to finish second in the long jump. Jydia Faucette placed 10
th with a jump of 5.02 meters and Marisa Hennix was 12
th with a mark of 5.00 meters.
Three Lady Flames placed in the top eight of the pentathlon. Liz Lannom finished second with 3,623 points, while Hekla Magnusdottir of UAH won with 3,675 points. Lily Brown was seventh with 2,907 points and Brooke Jones tallied 2,848 points for eighth. Amelia Wedemeyer settled into 12
th place with 2,346 points.
Lannom also qualified for three more event finals. In the 60-meter prelims, Lannom posted the second-fastest time at 7.67 seconds. Maddox Mayfield was third after crossing the finish line at 7.79 seconds. Faucette just missed qualifying for Friday's final with a 10
th-place time of 7.89 seconds.
Lannom posted the fastest qualifying time in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.61 seconds. Hennix was fifth (9.19), Brown placed seventh (9.36) and Barrett (9.45) was eighth to give Lee four in Friday's event final.
In the 200-meter prelims, Lannom and Mayfield qualified for the final. Lannom was fourth (24.99) and Mayfield (25.08) finished sixth. Faucette's time of 25.62 seconds put her in ninth and Addison Bleisath was 11
th (26.09).
