Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala.- The Lee University softball team dropped two tight games to the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Flames held a three-run lead in the first game but allowed UAH to make the comeback and walk it off with a home run. With the two losses, Lee is now 13-18 overall and 8-10 in Gulf South Conference action.
GAME 1
Javaria Smith got the game going in the top of the first with a solo home run. The Chargers then answered with two runs in the bottom of the second. Alexa Scalzo delivered in the top of the second inning using a squeeze bunt to bring Annalyn Ormsby to tie the game.
In the top of the third, the Lady Flames retook the lead. After a double and a single from Laney Harris and Bella Galloway, Ormsby tripled to right field to give Lee the 4-2 lead. The fourth inning had Scalzo hit a two-run blast to left field. The home run also scored Kyra Vieux and Lee led 6-2. UAH answered with two runs of their own with three hits and an error to cut the deficit to 6-4 after four innings.
Neither team scored in the fifth or the sixth inning then UAH walked it off in the seventh. The Chargers had a sacrifice fly, and then Lawren Hayes hit a two-run home run to win it 7-6 for UAH.
Scalzo was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI in the loss. Lee out hit UAH 12-9 but gave up eight walks and hit batter in the game.
GAME 2
UAH opened the scoring in the third inning when Shelby Thompson hit a three-run homer to give the Chargers the 3-0 lead. They added four more runs in the fifth inning when Kaylee Vaught hit a grand slam.
The Lady Flames hit three home runs in the sixth to get on the scoreboard. Goodridge and Harris hit back-to-back bombs, and then after a pitching change, Alyson Jarvi hit a two run blast to make it 7-4.
The Lady Flames out hit UAH 11-9 in the contest.
Lee will go to Young Harris, Ga. to take on Young Harris College on Wednesday, April 3 for a double header.
