CLEVELAND, Tenn.-After spending spring training in Tampa Bay Rays' big-league camp, former Lee University ace pitcher Logan Workman is back with the Rays' Montgomery Biscuits, the Double-A team of the Southern League.
"I feel like it was a really good experience to be able to practice, talk and being around the big-league guys," Workman said after returning to Montgomery. "It was something that allowed me to have better conversations with them and understand from their perspective how the game works.
"My arm felt great (during early spring workouts). I have no issues with my arm or body overall. I am pleased with the pitches I have, so I do not need a new one this year."
Workman was the opening day starting pitcher for the Biscuits on April 5th at Biloxi. "We opened up in Biloxi (Miss.), then played in Pensacola (Fla), and finally in Tennessee at the (Knoxville) Smokies. I think all the cities are really cool. It is an experience seeing new cities each year."Â
The big right-hander has been solid in his first three starts and is slated to be on the mound when the team returns home from a long trip and will host the Mississippi Braves on Tuesday evening (April 23). Last season a large following turned out to see Workman pitch in Chattanooga. The Biscuits are scheduled to visit the Lookouts on June 11-16.
Over his first three starts at Montgomery, Workman is still looking for his first win. His stats are impressive. In the three outings, Logan has pitched 14 innings, and his earned run average is 3.21. He has stuck out 15 batters in the 14 innings of work.Â
His minor league career numbers show him being used as a starting pitcher, 53 games, 47 as starter, 11-7 record, 3.12 ERA, 208 innings pitched and 222 strikeouts.
"My goal each year is to get to the big leagues, so I think staying healthy and getting stronger is the best way to the big leagues," Workman concluded.
