RESULTS
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 23
rd-ranked Lee University women's cross country team placed second out of 26 teams Saturday morning at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational. The 6K race was held at John Hunt Cross Country Park.
The Lady Flames collected 76 points to finish behind No. 5 Cedarville University, who amassed just 18 points. Nova Southeastern placed third (113) and Alabama Huntsville was fourth (147).
Aria Hawkins, running unattached, was the top finisher in the field of 250 runners. She crossed the finish line at 20:37.01. Corinne Lynch of Cedarville was second at 20:47.73.
Lee's top runner was Maria Mitchell. She stopped the clock at 20:50.30 for fifth place. Estella Clemons placed 10
th with a time of 21:39.20 and Capucine Cureau claimed 19
th (22:01.21).
The final two scorers for Lee were Ava Sparks and Katie Beam. Sparks was 28
th overall at 22:15.24 and Beam (22:24.92) was 32
nd. Sadie Wielfaert was one of the Lee spacers at 22:48.57 (48
th). Sawyer Simmons (23:18.50) was the other at No. 78.
Lucy Guthrie placed 114
th with a time of 23:57.75. Abi Moore finished 140
th (24:45.53) and Karis Kelley was 157
th (25:13.89) to round out the Lee competitors.
The Lady Flames begin the championship portion of their schedule in two weeks at the GSC Championships on October 25. The 8K race will be hosted by Christian Brothers University and will be held at Shelby Farms in Memphis, Tenn.
