MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Lee University women's cross country team placed three runners in the top nine and collected just 51 points but had to settle for second place at the 2025 GSC Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. Mississippi College had three in the top seven and put all five of their scorers in the top 14 on their way to claiming the team title with 43 points. The 6K race was contested at Shelby Farms Park.

The win by the Choctaws ended the Lady Flames' streak of eight consecutive GSC Cross Country Championships. This is the first time since Lee became an official member of the GSC that they did not carry the title back home.

Maria Mitchell was the first of 99 runners across the finish line to become the 2025 GSC Individual Champion and earn GSC Women's Runner of the Year. She stopped the clock at 20:23.15 to win by 9.25 seconds over Union's Addi Aguayo. Estella Clemons was Lee's second finisher and third overall at 20:39.19.

Ava Sparks placed ninth at 21:34.17. Capucine Cureau and Katie Beam completed the Lee scoring. Cureau (21:55.55) finished 18th and Beam was 20th (21:57.59). Sadie Wielfaert and Abi Moore served as spacers for the Lady Flames. Wielfaert stopped the clock at 22:04.37 for 24th and Moore was 27th (22:13.56).

Lyndi Chapman completed the circuit at 22:25.61 for 32nd position. Sawyer Simmons was 35th (22:34.43) and Lucy Guthrie was 51st (23:28.05).

Lee had five runners earn All-GSC status. Mitchell, Clemons and Sparks were First Team All-GSC for placing in among the top 10 runners. Cureau and Beam earned recognition as Second Team All-GSC after finishing between 11th and 20th.

The Lady Flames advance to the 2025 NCAA Division II South Region Championships on November 8. The 6K race will be held at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida.
