Lady Flames Place 15th at NCAA Championships

Mitchell and Clemons Earn All-American Honors

RESULTS

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Lee University women's cross country team completed its season with a 15th place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Saturday morning. The 6K championship race was held at Wayne E. Dannehi National XC Course on the campus of University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Lady Flames had two runners among the top 30 and amassed 463 points to finish 15th. Cal Poly Pomona also recorded 463 points, but the Lady Flames earned the tiebreaker. Grand Valley State was the team champion with 65 points. Colorado School of Mines was second (69) and Wingate University (131) placed third. The next highest finish of a team from the South Region was Tampa at 25th with 604 points. Palm Beach Atlantic finished 31st with 829 points.

Tristian Spence of Adams State claimed the overall individual title with a time of 20:11.0. Lee's top finisher was Maria Mitchell at No. 26. Mitchell completed the circuit at 20:53.2. Estella Clemons was a few spots behind at 29th with a mark of 20:55.3. Mitchell and Clemons earned All-American status because of their top 40 finishes.

Ava Sparks was Lee's third runner to cross the finish line. She stopped the clock at 22:19.5 to place 148th out of 261 runners. Sadie Wielfaert and Capucine Cureau rounded out the Lady Flames scoring. Wielfaert finished 164th (22:26.8) and Cureau was 166th (22:28.4).

Katie Beam and Abi Moore were the final Lee runners across the finish line. Beam completed the race at 22:40.8 for 186th and Moore was 229th with a time of 23:17.9.
