CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Coach Marty Rowe and his Lee Unviersity Lady Flames will put an eight-game winning streak on the line when they close out the regular season with home games against Christian Brothers University on Thursday (5:30) and then face rival Union University on Saturday afternoon (Senior Day at 2 p.m.)
After surviving a couple of tough battles during the long road trip to Mississippi, Coach Rowe proclaimed, "Yea, this group finds different ways to win, that's for sure!" That was his thoughts after the two-point win over Delta State and the three-OT victory at Mississippi College.
The coach stressed, "We are taking it one game at a time and don't want to look past Christian Brothers. To be honest it is probably just as important as the Union game. We cannot have any missteps going into the postseason.
"Winning the game (CBU) is important on the regional-ratings side of things. As far as Union goes, we will try not to put too much emphasis on winning or losing," Rowe explained. "The reality is it is two good teams trying to get ready for postseason, being the two or three seed is not a big deal at this point."
Union visits on Saturday with a 24-3, 19-1 record and ranked 14th in D2. If they defeat Trevecca on Thursday, the last time they would have lost a game was an overtime defeat to the Lady Flames on Jan. 16th. It would be easy for Lee (22-4, 16-4) to look past a Christian Brothers team that was winless (1-24, 1-10) until Monday when the Bucs scored their first win of the season against Valdosta State and could be eager to pull off another upset.
Lee will honor seniors Mallory Hampton, Haylee Johnson, Mia Hurst, Haley Cameron, and Addison Smith on Saturday. All five have been key parts to the success of the 2024-25 team.
"We're excited to finish out the regular season at home in Walker Arena," said Lee Athletic Director John Maupin. "There are some great games in line for Thursday and Saturday, including a long-standing and well-respected rivalry with Union University.
"We're looking to packing out Walker Arena as we send our teams into the post-season. I want to encourage everyone to come join us and enjoy free admission courtesy of our friends at Food City."
