Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. –The Lee University softball team stranded nine base runners en route to an 8-0 loss to the Auburn University Montgomery Warhawks on Friday night. Lee loaded the bases two separate times but failed to drive in a run. Lee fell to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in Gulf South Conference action.
Lee threatened early as two walks for Ana Macha, and Hailey Simco, and a single from Rylie Goodridge to load the bases, but a strikeout and a flyout ended the threat. AUM took the lead in the bottom of the second as the Warhawks used two singles and an error to plate a run.
Lee again loaded the bases in the top of the third as Alexa Scalzo and Goodridge singled and Macha reached on an error. However, Lee struck out back-to-back times to end the threat. The Warhawks doubled the lead in the bottom of the third using two more hits to bring a run home a make it a 2-0 game.
AUM broke the game open in the fifth as six hits produced five runs. Lexi Love had a two RBI double for AUM and Meredith Kellum hit a two-run home run to give the Warhawks the 7-0 lead. In the top of the sixth, the Lady Flames again got two base runners in scoring position with no outs, but left the runners stranded. AUM added an unearned run in the sixth to win the game 8-0.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey took her first loss of the season going five inning and giving up seven runs on 11 hits. Alaina Watson threw in the sixth inning and gave up an unearned run. Reese Cauley got the win for AUM giving up just five hits and striking out six.
Five different Lady Flames had hits in the loss. No one had more than one hit.
Lee will take on AUM in a double header tomorrow beginning at 1 PM EST.
