Box Score 2 VALDOSTA, Ga. – For the first time since 2017, the Lee University softball team took the series over Valdosta State University. The Blazers won the first game 6-1 before Lee rebounded and won game two 13-1 in just five innings. Yesterday, Lee snapped a ten-game losing streak to the Blazers and then took the series today.
The Lady Flames will remain on the road next week as they will head to Livingston, Ala. for a series against the University of West Alabama.
Game 1
Valdosta State out hit Lee in the first game 8-1 on the way to the five-run victory.
Saylor McNearny hit a solo home run to give VSU a 1-0 lead in the first. Rylie Goodridge tied the game in the top of the second with a solo home run which turned out to be the only hit of the game for Lee.
VSU retook the lead in the bottom of the second using two hits to score a run. VSU scored twice in the bottom of the fifth. They used a walk, hit by pitch, and a double to score twice. The final two runs came in the bottom of the sixth when Anniston Gano hit a two-run home run.
The Lady Flames struck out eight times in the loss. Javaria Smith was walked twice and Goodridge had the hit.
Layne Bailey started the game and took the loss. She went four and one-third innings and gave up four runs on five hits. Madison Barnett threw one and two-thirds innings and gave up two runs on three hits.
Game 2
The Lady Flames came out quickly in game two. Alexa Scalzo was hit by a pitch to start the game. Ana Macha then reached on a fielder's choice. VSU tried to throw Scalzo out at second but there was an error. They both then stole a base to get them in scoring position. Smith then struck out looking but got an RBI as Scalzo stole home. Alyson Jarvi doubled the lead at 2-1 with a single to score Macha. VSU got their first run in the bottom of the first on a walk, error, and single.
Lee broke the game open in the second inning scoring seven times. Ava Perkins started it with a single. Kaelin Ault was then hit by a pitch. Scalzo reached safely on a fielder's choice while Perkins and Ault were also safe. Macha then singled to drive Perkins home. Smith then added two more RBI with a single.
After a pitching change, Goodridge walked to load the bases. Jarvi then had a single to center field then brought two more runs in. Hailey Simco had a sacrifice fly, Bella Galloway had an RBI single, and Perkins had a RBI single to give Lee the 9-1 lead.
The third inning saw two more runs come across as Jarvi had another RBI scoring Macha. Galloway also had another RBI scoring Goodridge. In the fifth, Ava Perkins hit a two-run blast to left field to give the Lady Flames a 13-1 lead.
Lee scored 13 runs on 14 hits. Macha led the way with three hits and three runs. Scalzo scored twice while Goodridge and Perkins each had two runs. Smith, Perkins, and Jarvi each had three RBI.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey threw the complete game giving up just three hits and one run. She threw just 62 pitches.
