Box Score 2 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lee University softball dropped two close games to the #8 University of North Georgia at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga on Tuesday. The Lady Flames lost game one 4-2 and then lost game two 2-1.
Game 1
The Lady Flames jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the Nighthawks rallied for the 4-2 win win.
Lee scored in the first inning as Alexa Scalzo doubled to lead the game off. After a ground out from Ana Macha, Javaria Smith grounded out as well to score Scalzo. Lee doubled the lead in the top of the third. Macha singled and then Smith reached on an error. Macha then scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
UNG tied the game in the fourth. Natalie Ray singled, and then Carleigh Knowles hit her 18
th home run of the season to tie the game. The Nighthawks scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth. Journey Roberts singled to start the inning. Then the next batter was Sydnee Reeves. She reached first with a single, but a throwing error allowed Roberts to score and Reeves to get to third. Natalie Ray then had the final RBI with a single.
UNG out hit Lee 6-4 and both teams had an error. Four different Lady Flames had a hit, while Ray and Knowles each had two hits for UNG.
Chloe Poss earned her 12
th win of the season going all seven innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out three.
Natalie Pruitt-Geesey started for Lee going four innings and giving up three hits and two runs with one strikeout. Layne Bailey took the loss throwing two innings and giving up two runs on three hits.
Game 2
The second game was a low scoring affair as UNG won 2-1.
The first run came in the third inning as Natalie Ray doubled and then scored on a Carleigh Knowles single and UNG led 1-0. The Nighthawks added a run in the fourth when Journey Roberts tripled and then a Sydnee Reeves single brought her home.
Lee's only run came in the top of the sixth with a solo home run from Alexa Scalzo which was her ninth home run of the season.
Angelina Badalament won her 17
th game of the season. She threw all seven innings and gave up four hits and one run with one strikeout.
Layne Bailey had the loss for Lee. She threw three innings and gave up four hits and one run with two strikeouts. Madison Barnett threw three innings in relief and gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Scalzo had two of the four hits for Lee in the loss. UNG stranded four base runners while Lee left four.
The Lady Flames will head to Valdosta, Ga. for a three-game series beginning on Friday, April 5.
