Flames Have Three on Second Team All-GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - As the Lee University baseball team prepares for the Gulf South Conference championship on Friday, three Flames were named to the Second Team All-GSC as announced by the league on Thursday. Cooper Casteel, JJ Williams, and Isaiah French were all named for the first time to the second team.

Williams has been a dynamic hitter this season. He is in the sixth in the GSC in hits and 11th in runs scored. He is in top five in the GSC in both triples and doubles. As the leadoff hitter, he has had the most at bats this season in the conference. He is also in the top five in stolen bases. In the outfield, he has 100 putouts with just one error.

French has been a solid bat in the lineup for the Flames. He is fourth on the team in batting average and hits. He has the second most RBI for the Flames. He is in the top ten in the GSC in stolen bases and sacrifice flies. As a catcher, he has thrown out the fifth most base stealers in the GSC. He has over a .992 fielding percentage this year.

Cooper Casteel has been a fantastic starter this season on the mound for Lee. He is in the top six in the GSC in ERA and is in the top ten in strikeouts. He has given up the 11th fewest hits and is in the top seven in fewest runs allowed. He has the most wins for the Flames. All of his appearances have been starts and he has thrown the most innings for the Flames. Opposing batters are hitting just .250 against him.

Head Coach Mark Brew is proud of what his three players have accomplished this season. "I'm proud of these three guys and being recognized for excellent seasons. We had others that I feel should've garnered strong consideration, but the vote didn't go their way.  It's a great league that has excellent players so to be mentioned with the others is an honor."

The Flames will take on Valdosta State University at 2 PM EST on Friday, May 2 in Oxford, Ala.
