BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Savannah Weisman and Noelle Harrington were each named to the Gulf South Conference preseason team while the Lee University women's lacrosse team was picked to finish fourth in the league this year.
Weisman had a great freshman year in goal. She led the GSC in saves with 166 and 9.76 saves a game. She had the third best save percentage in the league last year.
Harrington was a second team All-GSC player last year. She played and started every game for Lee. She was third in goals and fourth in assists. Her shots on goal percentage was .902 for the year. She was fourth in ground balls on the team as well.
Flagler College led the way with six players on the preseason team. Lander University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville each had three players. The University of Montevallo had one player.
Flagler was picked to repeat as the GSC champions earning five of the six first place votes and 25 points overall. UAH had one first place vote. The Chargers and Lander were picked to finish second with each team getting 19 points. Lee and Montevallo each received 11 points and were tied at fourth. New affiliate member Virginia State University received five points as was picked to finish sixth.
The Lady Flames had one player on the newcomer to watch list. Lanie Carroll, a freshman from Catharpin, Va. was selected. She is an attack player from Battlefield High School.
Lee will have an exhibition on February 4th at 5 PM as they will host Tennessee Wesleyan University. The regular season will begin on Saturday, February 7 at 1 PM as Lee will host Converse University.
