Box Score 2 ROME, Ga. – The Lee University softball team dropped both games of the double header to Shorter University to open the 2026 season. In game one, Shorter jumped out to a commanding 9-0 lead before Lee rallied. The Lady Flames scored nine runs of their own, but it wasn't enough as Shorter won 12-9. In game two, Lee jumped out to the early lead but could not hold on as Shorter won 3-2.
GAME 1
It was a tough bottom of the first as Shorter scored nine runs to take the lead. Shorter used five hits, four walks, a hit by a pitch, and an error to score the runs.
Shorter added three more runs in the third on six hits to make it a 12-0 lead. Lee finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. After a Hailey Simco double, Alyson Jarvi hit a two-run home run to make it 12-2.
Lee scored three more in the fifth. Katie Hastings led off with a bunt single and then Sadie Winsett hit a two-run home run to make it 12-4. Hayden Gardner then double. With Kaylee Wilson as a pinch runner, Addi Emmerson brought her in with a double.
The last four runs for Lee came in the seventh. Wilson led the inning off with a walk. Madison Pinzon then doubled to score Wilson. Simco followed that up with a double to score Pinzon. Jarvi then hit her second home run of the day to score Simco and made it 12-9.
Jarvi was 3-for-4 with four RBI while Simco was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Ella Baker took the loss for Lee giving up six runs in three innings while striking out five. Layne Bailey gave up six runs with only three earned with one strikeout.
GAME 2
Lee jumped out of the games quickly in the first inning in game two. Simco started the game with a single and then stole second and third base. She was brought home by Eva Armstrong. Winsett then drove Armstrong in with a double.
That would be the only runs that Lee would score in game two as Shorter scored one in the second inning and two more runs in the sixth to win the game 3-2.
Lee had eight hits in game two but left five on base. Jarvi and Simco were the only two with two hits. Winsett was left on base three times.
Freshman Kaylee Underwood threw the complete game in the circle for Lee. She only threw 44 pitches and gave up nine hits and three runs with three strikeouts.
Lee will be back in action next Friday, February 7 at the Chattanooga Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn.
