Softball Drops Series to UAH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lee University softball dropped both games of the double header to get swept over the weekend by the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Lee lost the first game 6-0 and then fell 11-3 in the second game. The Lady Flames will wrap up the month-long road trip on Tuesday when they go to Lincoln Memorial University.
 
Game 1
 
UAH broke the game open in the bottom of the first. They used four hits, a walk and an error to score four runs. A two-run home run from Allie Yeary finalized the lead for the Chargers. UAH scored the final two runs in the bottom of the fourth as the used four more hits to plate the runs. Lee threatened to score in the sixth and seventh innings but could not muster a run and fell 6-0.
 
Lee had five hits in the contest and Alyson Jarvi had two of them. Hailey Simco, Katie Hastings, and Sadie Winsett each had a hit as well. UAH had ten hits in the win with Brittany Slaten getting three of them.
 
Layne Bailey took the loss in game one. She threw one inning and gave up four runs on four hits. Sadie Winsett threw three and two-thirds innings. She gave up two runs on six hits. Coming off of an injury, Abigail Welbaum threw for the first time this season and went one and one third innings.
 
For UAH, Katie Bracken threw the complete game. She gave up just five hits and struck out eight.
 
Game 2
 
Lee scored their first runs of the series in the top of the first. Eva Armstrong singled and then stole second. Kaylee Wilson struck out but reached first on a passed ball. She then stole second base. Armstrong came into score on a wild pitch and Wilson went to third. Alyson Jarvi grounded out to shortstop and scored Wilson in the process.
 
UAH answered right back in the bottom of the first. Three hits and a error produced three runs and UAH took the lead 3-2. The second inning gave UAH another run on two hits.
 
The final run for Lee came in the third. Addi Lewis brought home Jarvi. Lewis was out at third trying to stretch a double to a triple. UAH made it 6-3 in the fourth. The Chargers had three more hits to score two runs. The bottom fell out for Lee in the fifth when UAH had six hits to score five runs and end the game early. The Chargers hit two home runs in the fifth to end the game.
 
Lee had five hits in the loss with all five hits coming from different players. Lewis and Jarvi had the RBI. UAH had 16 hits with three players all having three hits.
 
Kaylee Underwood took the loss for Lee. She threw three and one-third innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. Welbaum threw one and one-third innings and gave up four runs on five hits.
