Box Score 2 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Lee University softball won both games to open the Chattanooga Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Lady Flames took the first game in just six innings winning over Cedarville University 8-0. Then in the second game, Lee snuck through a 2-1 over UVA-Wise.
The Lady Flames will return to action on Sunday, February 8 for the final games of the invitational. Lee will play Ohio Dominican University and West Texas A&M.
GAME 1 VS Cedarville
Lee came out on fire in the bottom of the first. The inning started with a Sadie Winsett double. Then Madison Pinzon was walked to get on base. Alyson Jarvi then hit her third home run of the season with a three-run blast over the left field fence.
Addison Emerson then followed that up reaching safely on an error. Addi Lewis then also reached on an error. Hailey Simco then singled and both Emmerson and Lewis scored while Simco was thrown out at third to end the inning with a 5-0 lead.
The final three runs came in the bottom of the sixth. Emerson walked and then Lewis hit a ground rule double. Simco drove in Emmerson and then Lewis scored on an error. Simco scored the final run of the day in a sacrifice fly from Reese Haun.
Kaylee Underwood earned her first career win in the circle. She went five innings and gave up just three hits with one strikeout. Ella Baker threw one inning in relief and gave up a hit with two strikeouts.
Winsett, Lewis, and Simco each had two hits for Lee.
GAME 2 vs UVA-Wise
The scoring came late in game two for Lee. UVA Wise took the lead in the fourth using a double and a single to take a 1-0 lead.
Lee tied it in the fifth. Eva Armstrong singled and then Sadie Winsett singled. Armstrong got to third on an error. Hayden Gardner then brought Armstrong home with a sacrifice fly.
Lee scored the winning run in the sixth. Lewis singled to get on and then Hope Barnett pinch ran. Barnett got to second on a wild pitch and the advanced to third on a flyout. Haun brought Barnett home with a sacrifice fly which turned out to be the winning run
Layne Bailey got the start in the circle and threw four innings she gave up one run on three hits. Ella Baker threw three innings in relief and earned the win. She did not give up a hit in the three innings.
Armstrong had three hits and the run scored in the win. Lewis added two more hits.
