Box Score 2 CLINTON, Miss. –It was a tale of different games on Friday evening, the first game between Lee University softball and Mississippi College had three combined runs. In game two, the two teams scored 16 total runs. MC won both games 2-1 and 10-6 to drop the Lady Flames to 10-20 overall and 3-8 in Gulf South Conference action. The two teams will play in the series finale on Saturday, March 14 at 2 PM EST.
GAME 1
The first run of the game came in the fourth inning. Eva Armstrong led it off with a walk. She stole second base before Addi Lewis doubled to bring her home. Lee had two more on base, but the runners were stranded.
MC scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth. A double, walk, and two singles brought home two runners to give MC the win.
The Choctaws stranded eight base runners while Lee left seven. MC outhit the Lady Flames 8-6. Lewis and Alyson Jarvi each had two hits for Lee.
Layne Bailey threw five innings and gave up five hits. Abigail Welbaum threw one inning and gave up two runs on three hits.
GAME 2
Lee started the game off with a run in the first. Hailey Simco singled and stole second. Armstrong followed that up with a single and then Hayden Gardner singled to drive Simco home. Lee doubled the lead in the second. Armstrong brought Madison Pinzon home with a single.
In the third inning, the Lady Flames scored their third run of the game. On an advance from Katie Hastings at second, Hayden Gardner scored. MC took the lead in the bottom of the third. Two walks, one hit by a pitch, two errors and three hits scored five runs for the Choctaws.
Lee tied the game in the fourth. An Armstrong triple brought Simco home, and then a Sadie Winsett sacrifice fly brought Armstrong home. MC retook the lead in the fourth with three more hits and MC led 6-5.
MC made it 10-5 in the fifth. A three-run home run from Blakely Gill and then a double from Sarah Lee brought four runs across. In the sixth Lee scored the final run on another sac fly from Winsett as Simco scored an unearned run.
Simco was 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs. Armstrong was 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run. Winsett had two RBI.
Lee used four pitchers in the loss. Winsett went two innings and gave up three runs on two hits. Kaylee Underwood threw two-thirds on an inning and gave up two runs on three hits. Ella Baker threw two and one-third innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. Welbaum threw one inning and gave up two hits.
