CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Winning is nothing new for Lee women's golf coach Geandra Almeida. After all, she was the No. 1 ranked player in Brazil before coming to the United States and a two-time All-American while playing under former coach and current athletic director John Maupin. 

It came as no surprise when Almeida won the Cleveland City Ladies Championship for the fourth consecutive year in the 36-hole event played at the Cleveland Country Club and Flagstone Golf Club.  "I don't compete very often anymore, but I still enjoy playing in a few tournaments each year," said Almeida. "It helps me stay connected to the game and gives me a better perspective on what my players experience when they compete. That is valuable as a coach."

She added, "The City Championship is one of those events I always enjoy because of its history. It has been part of the Cleveland golf community for so many years, and it is special to be a part of something that means so much to so many people. 

What I appreciate most is the opportunity to spend time with and compete alongside so many incredible women in our local golf community. Many of them have been longtime supporters of Lee University and our women's golf program. It is always fun to share the course with them. For me, that makes the tournament special. The result is not what really matters, I am just thankful for the chance to be out there competing and representing Lee University."

The supporters of Lee University and the golf program have every reason to be proud and supportive. After a fantastic regular season that was capped off with the Gulf South Conference championship title, the women's golf team swept all three major postseason awards. Senior Hannah Nall was selected the GSC Golfer of the Year, Justine Emond was named the GSC Freshman of the Year, and Almeida was labeled the GSC Coach of the Year. In addition, Nall, Emond, Emilia Nordström, and Olivia Ireland were named All-GSC First Team.

It is the second straight year that Nall has been the golfer of the year. It is also the fourth straight year for Lee to have the golfer of the year. Supuschaya Srinchantamit earned the award in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
