DAYTON, Tenn- The Lee women's softball team (4-0) completed their first road trip of the season with a doubleheader sweep of Bryan College on Friday afternoon. The Lady Flames were propelled by three extra base hits from junior Ana Coscorrosa.
LEE 1, BRYAN 0
Caroline MacAusland (1-0) pitched four scoreless innings to lead the Lady Flames over Bryan College 1-0 in game two. MacAusland scattered two hits and struck out five in recording her first collegiate victory. The game was shortened to five innings due to darkness.
Similar to game one Lee jumped out early scoring the lone run of the ballgame in the first inning. Jennifer Ringle drew a two-out walk and scored on a double by Anna Coscorrosa . The Venezuelan native finished with two doubles and a triple on the day.
Meg Macias and Amanda Lynn both ripped doubles for the Lady Flames. Ringle, Savanna Bell and Dominque Hannah added singles to complete the six-hit performance. Lee pitchers held Bryan to just three hits.
Angie Hughes came on in the fifth and final inning for the Lady Flames to strike out the side and preserve the shutout.
Sarah Hundley was the tough luck loser for the Lady Lions. She went five innings allowing just the one run on six hits and struck out a pair of batters.
The Lee ladies will open up the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday afternoon at Butler Field when Tennessee Wesleyan comes calling. Lee took a pair of games from their old rival on Thursday in Athens. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
LEE 8, BRYAN 3
The Lee women's softball team made the most of five Bryan College errors to take game one of Friday's doubleheader, 8-3. The five errors by the Lady Lions led to seven unearned runs for Lee.
The Lady Flames started early plating five runs in the first inning to open up a comfortable margin before Bryan stepped to the plate.
Katie Deems (1-0) started for the Lady Flames and worked three innings to notch her first win of the 2013 campaign. Deems surrender two hits and struck out two.
Angie Hughes came on and posted all zeroes working four innings in relief. Hughes yielded just two hits and struck out six.
At the dish the Lady Flames made plenty of contact only striking out one time in the contest. Ana Coscorrosa started the attack early with an RBI triple to deep right in the first inning.The junior would later score on a wild pitch. Corscorrosa would add a double in the fourth inning to finish 2-for-4. Freshman Lexie Dean went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Shanna Chappell was in the circle for the Lady Lions and worked the full seven innings giving up nine hits and seven walks. Heather Daniel accounted for the Bryan offense with a pair of hits and two RBI.
