MOUNT VERNON, Ga.- The Lee University softball team used two outstanding pitching performances to complete a doubleheader sweep of Brewton-Parker College Friday afternoon.
Angie Hughes and Jessa Watts both pitched complete game shutouts and both yielded just two hits to help lead the Lady Flames to victory. Lee outscored the Lady Barons 11-0 on the day and out hit the Georgia club 16-4.
Lee 2, BPC 0
Watts (2-0) took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning in game two for the Lady Flames. A one-out single by Myia Ashmore gave BPC their first hit of the game. Lauren Clinton would follow with a single to put the tying run on base. From there Watts would get a strike out and a line out to preserve the shutout and keep the Lady Flames (10-0, 2-0) undefeated to start the 2013 campaign. Watts would finish with six strikeouts and gave up just one walk.
Lee scored their only two runs of the contest in the first inning. Lexie Dean drew a one out walk followed by a Jennifer Ringle single. Charlie Wooden's single would score Dean and a Brewton-Parker error would plate Ringle. From there the Lady Flames would manage just two more hits in the ballgame. Ringle finished 2-for-3 and Dominique Hannah added a single in the seventh to complete a four-hit day for the Lee leadoff hitter.
Myia Ashmore (3-2) was the tough luck loser for the Lady Barons. Ashmore pitched seven quality innings giving up two runs on four hits. She walked three and struck out six.
The No. 11 Lady Flames will put their winning streak on the line against another SSAC opponent tomorrow afternoon when they square off with Coastal Georgia in Brunswick.First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Behind another a strong outing from Angie Hughes, the Lee softball team blanked Brewton-Parker, 9-0 in game one of Friday's doubleheader.
Hughes (5-0) went the distance for the Lady Flames. The freshman kept the Lady Barons off balance throughout the game surrendering just two hits while striking out 14 batters in seven innings of work. BPC is not the only team to struggle against the hard throwing righty. In 30 innings of work this year Hughes has already struck out 53 batters.
Lee grabbed the lead in the fourth inning thanks to a pair of solo home runs from the heart of the order. Charlie Wooden drove a ball deep over the left field wall for her fourth home run of the year. Ana Coscorrosa followed with a blast on a 3-2 pitch to give the Lady Flames a 2-0 advantage. Coscorrosa now has three long balls on the year.
Lee would tack on an unearned run in the fifth inning when Dominique Hannah doubled with two outs and scored when Lexie Dean reached on a BPC error. The Lady Flames would use a three-run sixth and three-run seventh to put the game well out of reach.
Hannah set the table at the top of the lineup for the Lady Flames with three hits, a RBI and a run scored. Dezirae Parsons had a double and two hits. Jenevieve Cena added a pinch-hit two-run single in the sixth inning to help balloon the lead.
Crystal Ward (3-4) was tagged with the loss for the Lady Barons. Ward worked 5 2/3 innings giving up five hits, four earned runs, walked three and struck out four. Lauren Simerly worked the final 1 1/3 innings. Simerly gave up four runs on five hits and walked a batter.
