GULF SHORES, Ala.- Angie Hughes' no-hitter capped a Lee softball doubleheader sweep of Bethel University (Tenn.) and Blue Mountain College (Miss.) on day one of the Gulf Shores Invitational Friday afternoon.

Freshman Angie Hughes has been virtually unhittable in her first six collegiate starts. On Friday afternoon she literally was. Hughes complete game no-hitter lead the Lady Flames past Blue Mountain College, 6-0 in game two of the Gulf Shores Invitational.
Lee scored single runs in the first and second innings before opening things up with a four-run sixth. Offensively it was once again leadoff hitter Dominique Hannah making an impact. The sophomore went 2-for 3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Lexie Dean, hitting in the No. 2 spot delivered three hits and drove in two. Dezirae Parson also contributed to the 10-hit performance going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
While the offensive was clicking, it was Hughes who stole the show. The freshman was nearly perfect inside the circle striking out 14 batters while yielding just three walks in the contest. On the year Hughes is a perfect 7-0.
Halley Beckham went the distance for BMC. Beckham gave up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits in her seven innings of work. The Toppers committed four errors in the ballgame that led to two unearned runs for Lee.
The victory keeps the No. 11 Lady Flames a perfect 14-0 on the year. Lee will play two more games tomorrow as a part of the Gulf Shores Invitational. Beginning at 4 p.m. Lee will test Central Methodist University followed by a 6 p.m. battle with the Scots of Lyon College.

GULF SHORES, Ala.- The Lee women's softball team began the Gulf Shores Invitational with an 8-1 victory over Bethel University (Tenn.) Friday afternoon.
The Lee offense led the way with a 14-hit attack and three pitchers combined to give up just four hits and one run to secure the victory.
The Lady Flames struck first with a run in the first inning. Dominique Hannah, coming off Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors, led off the game with a double. Hannah advanced to third on a balk by Tiger pitcher Ericca McCormic and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jennifer Ringle.
Lee opened things up in the top of the third inning. After three consecutive singles by Amanda Lynn, Ringle and Meg Macias, Anna Coscorrosa singled to score Lynn. Charlie Wooden made it five hits in a row with an RBI single to score Ringle. Dezirae Parsons followed and drew a bases loaded walk scoring Macias to complete the three-run inning.
Hannah finished 3-for-5 at the dish with two runs scored. Ringle added three hits and drove in two. Coscorrosa had a pair of hits and two RBI for the balanced Lady Flames.
Jessa Watts started in the circle for Lee and worked 2 2/3 innings giving up just one hit while striking out four. Katie Deems followed Watts and worked 2 1/3 innings for the victory. She gave up two hits and struck out one. Caroline MacAusland worked the final two innings for Lee. She gave up one unearned run, walked one and struck out a batter.
McCormic was tagged with the loss for Bethel. She gave up four runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings of work.
Blakely Robertson drove in the lone Tiger run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.
