GULF SHORES, Ala.- The Lee softball team completed a doubleheader sweep on day two of the Gulf Shores Invitational with a 12-1 drubbing of Lyon College (Ark.) on Saturday afternoon .
The No. 11 Lady Flames offense pounded out 11 hits and 12 runs to cruise to their 16th consecutive win to start the 2013 campaign.
Dominique Hannah continued to set the pace for the Lee offensive attack from her leadoff spot. The sophomore outfielder was a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Hannah is now batting .552 with 10 doubles and three home runs on the year. Jennifer Ringle went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. The senior smashed her first home run of the year in the contest. Ana Coscorrosa and Charlie Wooden also added two hits a piece. Lizzie Stevens added a triple and had two RBI to round out the high powered Lee offense.
Caroline MacAusland (3-0) started in the circle for the Lady Flames and worked six innings giving up just one run on four hits. MacAusland struck out seven and yielded just one free pass. The freshman has given up just four earned runs in 22 2/3 innings pitched this season.
Amanda McCauley started for Lyon and worked 1 2/3 innings. She was tagged with four runs on four hits. Lauren Mills followed for the Scots and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up eight runs, five earned on seven hits. Four Lyon errors led to four unearned runs.
Apple Filat and Valerie Howell provided the offense for the Scots with two hits each. Stephanie Haft was credited with the lone RBI.
Lee will now advance to the Gold Bracket of the Gulf Shores Invitational after four straight tournament victories. The Lady Flames will battle Freed-Hardeman tomorrow at 12 p.m.
LEE 13, CMU 1
The Lee softball team used an 11-run third inning to route Central Methodist University, 13-1 playing the first of two games in the Gulf Shores Invitational Saturday afternoon.
One day after throwing a no-hitter freshman Angie Hughes (8-0) worked three innings, giving up just one unearned run to register her eighth victory of the season. Hughes surrendered three hits and struck out six. Katie Deems followed Hughes and worked two shutout innings in relief giving up just one hit.
Dominique Hannah went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Jennifer Ringle added two hits and scored twice. Dezirae Parsons went a perfect 3-for-3 and drove in three. Lexie Dean walked twice and went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
The Lee offense pounded out 12 hits and sent 16 batters to the plate in the top of third inning.
Bri Ford started for the Eagles and worked two innings. After pitching two scoreless innings the Lady Flames chasd Ford from the ballgame in the third inning. Ford gave up eight runs on five hits and walked two. Kennedy Seifert worked three innings in relief. She gave up five runs on six hits and surrendered six walks.
