Lady Flames Split Pair with Bryan

Pesky Lions Use Late Inning Rally to Avoid Sweep

DAYTON, Tenn. – The Lee University softball team (10-11) settled for a doubleheader split with crosstown rival Bryan College (7-8) on Wednesday afternoon after the Lady Flames held leads going into the bottom of the seventh in both games.

LEE 1, BC 2
In the nightcap, the Lady Flames were unable to hold on to a one-run lead as the Lions scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 2-1 walk off victory and the series split.

Lee jumped on the board first with a solo run in the third inning on a RBI groundout by Dominique Hannah.

In the home half of the seventh, Katie Vaughn drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game before Olivia Gore would single home the winning run.

Hannah finished with a double and a single in the contest. Hailey Clark finished 2-for-3 while Lexie Dean added a single. Starting Pitcher Annabeth Pruett singled and scored the lone run for the Lady Flames.

Pruett worked 5 1/3 scoreless innings for the Lady Flames. She scattered six hits and walked one. Clark (2-4) was tagged with the loss as she worked 2/3 innings in relief giving up two runs on three hits. Angie Hughes came on to try and salvage the game with the bases loaded in the seventh before yielding a walk and a single.

Sarah Hundley recorded the victory for Bryan as she pitched a complete game giving up one run on six hits over seven innings. She struck out seven and walked only one.

The Lady Flames will head back into conference play this weekend when they welcome West Alabama to Butler Field for a three-game series. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

LEE 5, BC 3 (9 innings)
The Lady Flames improved to 2-0 on the year in extra frames as they topped the Lions, 5-3 in nine innings to open up Wednesday's twin bill.

Thanks to a strong outing from starter Angie Hughes Lee held a 1-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Lions would force extra innings on an RBI single by Jill Davis.

The two teams exchanged runs in the eighth before Lee put the game away with a three-run ninth inning.

Ana Coscorrosa doubled twice and drove in four runs to lead the offensive attack for the Lady Flames. Amanda Lynn and Lexie Dean each singled and scored a run, while Dominique Hannah singled and scored twice.

A pair of freshman also made an impact at the dish. Hailey Clark finished 2-for-4 and Amber Broome added a pair of singles as Lee pounded out 13 hits total in the contest.

Angie Hughes started in the circle for the Lady Flames and worked 6 1/3 innings giving up one run on five hits. She struck out 11 and walked four. Annabeth Pruett (2-2) came on in relief and worked the final 2 2/3 innings for the victory. The freshman gave up two runs on one hit while striking out five.

Kaitie Simms went the full nine innings for Bryan. Simms gave up five runs on 13 hits while striking out seven.
