Cross Country Earns GSC Academic Honors

2020 GSC FALL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAMS
2020 GSC FALL ACADEMIC HONOR ROLL

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Gulf South Conference announced the academic awards for the 2020 fall season Friday afternoon with seven Lee University student-athletes earning a spot on the 2020 GSC Fall All-Academic Team.

The fall sports honored are men's and women's cross country. With soccer and volleyball moving to the spring of 2021 this year, those sports will be included in the spring academic awards.

Caleb Eagleson and Will Stone represented Lee on the Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team. Eagleson was one of five two-time honorees among the GSC All-Academic selections.

The Lady Flames claimed five of the nine spots on the Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. Making the team were Olivia McLain, Toni Moore, Celine Ritter, Audrey Royer and Hannah Spooneybarger.

Academic All-GSC Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad. Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.

A total of 171 student-athletes finished with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 and were named to the GSC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

The Flames had 10 runners earn a spot on the GSC Academic Honor Roll. Joining Eagleson and Stone were Silas Eckenroad, Dawson Reed, Andrew Hendry, Casey Guthery, Jacob Hatcher, Ezekiel Harless, Adan Rodriguez and Caleb Guthery.

In addition to McLain, Moore, Ritter, Royer and Spooneybarger that made the GSC All-Academic Team, Elizabeth Beckham, Elizabeth Heckman, Lily Hare, Grace Adams, Danielle Horter and Liza Kellerman were the 11 Lady Flames mentioned on the GSC Academic Honor Roll.

The all-academic teams and the complete list of honor roll selections can be found at the top of the page.
